In Eastern European Jewish cuisine, pastries full of black poppy seeds in a sugary paste are traditional throughout Purim, which takes place exactly just one month right before Passover and roughly per month right before Easter. Regular pastries involve poppy seed kalács and hamantashen, both from time to time known as beigli (also spelled bejgli)
